Greg Bonfiglio has always stepped up. The USF community and our neighbors lean on his visible leadership in his current role as pastor of St. Ignatius Parish. Even before that time, Fr. Bonfiglio taught and mentored in his community. USF is a very special partner to St. Ignatius Parish, including with St. Ignatius College Prep. We all started down on Market Street in 1855. We share, uh, real estate here on the hilltop and, um, and we seek to minister to many of the same people. USF students come to our masses and are involved in so many of our programs, but also faculty and staff and alumni of USF who live in San Francisco have always loved USF’s tagline change the world from here. I think we do that much in the same way USF does. Teacher, leader, Jesuit, and Theologian Bonfiglio has spent a life in service working in roles as diverse as serving as president of Jesuit High School in Sacramento and as a chaplain at Folsom State Prison. You know my journey to a life of service has a lot of different influences. For a number of years I thought I would be a Franciscan, but then I met the Jesuits and the way they served captured my imagination and I want to do what they’re doing. And so, I didn’t really know the Jesuits when I entered, but I took a leap because I thought that’s where God was calling me. And, 40 years later, I’m still here. For service and values in alignment with the spirit of USF alumni, USF honors Fr. Greg Bonfiglio of the Society of Jesus with the Cable Car Award
